Blastin' and Castin' in the Texas Outdoors

We havea lot of good times, the road was a drug when we started way back, our wheels rolled on steady, now its forgetting the race to find an open space and leaving that city far behind We’ll be up in the morning before the sun, since anything beats working on the job and everyone knows the early worm gets the fish. The world is your oyster, let the high times carry the low, walk where the sun is shining, lay your burdens down and think to yourself that it sure feels good feeling good again.

Forget Marty Stouffer's "Wild America"...

... come up to Wild Gause. Oh, I'm sorry - y'all are tied down to women (obviously, since our hunting buddy photo disappeared) and have to sit at home and pass up on the bounty of wildlife I saw this past weekend. Aside from all the dove (mornings are loaded with them - saw a flock of 3 dozen at one point), there was a plethora of other game animals out and about. I saw a racoon and lots of rabbits, but instead went squirrel hunting amongst a mess of tree rats. Throw in the first hog spotting of the season and you have a better show than Marty ever could come up with, considering all you can shoot with him is photographs. So rather than a poster-sized map of the Gulf, come on up and we can add some hog photos to the site. Did I mention hogs? Wasn't sure, but there was a nice family of all sizes. In closing, I'll wish you good luck with the fishing, but will relish in the fact there is no size limit on HOGS!!!!!!!!!!!!

About these pigs you saw, what time, and place? When you say that there are many dove in the morning do you mean the real morning or do you mean noonish?

Work is being a rather unfortunate pain in my Ass this week. Since I have no intention of working on friday I have to get something done here making early evening escapes highly difficult. I have free time in the morning if you would be awake. Though, I didn't mind coming up to Gause and hunting by myself because you were passed out last time.

The hunting buddy did disappear due to my intervention, That is the type of thing you can do with administrative powers so all you blog slaves better remember it.

I completely apologize for the oversized picture, I will not let it happen again. Is there any way you might consider forgiving me just this once?

If this darn hurricane persists and ruins the fishing plans we may try to shoot some bacon if Ullman guide services are going to be available.

Hogs seen - late afternoon (perhaps 5ish) in field across from main ranch.

Doves - flying well at 8:30 on north ranch. Also potential in late afternoon on middle ranch.

Rabbits - saw them throughout the day at various locales

Squirrels - middle ranch was heavy with them; lots of young of the year

Hunting hotties - none to be seen (come on, this is Gause we are talking about); since Steve has established an Orwellian society here we can't even live in a fantasy land

So if things look questionable, feel free to come on up. I can't guarantee pork, but there was plenty of other critters around.

We used to see pigs in that pasture across from the main ranch quite often. Do think that they get there by crossing the road down near the bottom of the hill where that ditch/stream is? I know they used to be quite fond of those lower pastures that Hann has. I just wish they would move across the road to a place where we could do something about them.

Middle ranch is just crawling with tree rats eh? Which part, the North end or straight back from the entrance gate I have never really had all that much luck seeing them at the middle ranch.

Forget hunting, I want to go to the redneck bars.

do you also intend to have more discussions with the redneck sheriff?

I would recommend a driving speed of no more than 70mph and abstaining from road beers.

I would also like to question the deletion of Jeff's hunting honey. Why did she have to go but his fat fishing friend stayed up? I find that much more offensive.

Thank you Brian for your support - I actually purchased "1984" yesterday to read Orwell's prophecy. Perhaps I should pass it along to Steve; then agian he may just use the book as a fire starter.

Anyway, I parked by the bridge and walked from the creek up towards the hay barn with the little bales. The tree rats were scurrying around in the trees right above the flood plain. The doves were flying through the opening near the tank in that locale - good for a multi-person hunt since they always seemed out-of-reach (but they were there in numbers).

As for the sheriff - he has assured me that he will not interfere with our hunting endeavors and encourages us to support our local economy by visiting the redneck bars (but agrees the road rules should be recognized).

I find Animal Farm to be a much more enjoyable Orwellian read. Nothing makes me happier than the portrayal of communists as swine.
