140grain projectiles for 270 winchester
Trying out some new bullets:
I got a box of 140grain Boat tailed - Jacketed Hollowpoint bullets for the .270.
Loaded some up with a range of charges of H4831 but I am not very impressed, I can't get a group under two inches at 100yrds. Strangely distribution of the groups was kind of linear in nature for several of the groups. In these groups the hole in the target were nearly in a horizontal line. Does this type of pattern indicate human error?
I need to get some different powder, any favorites for my caliber.
On the upside though, these do seem to really be some thumpers. I was guessing they would be based on the increased impact on my shoulder.
My assumptions were upheld by the examination fo the big fat hole one blasted into a tree. Much more wicked that the 90gr Hollow point.

Just curious but what bullets did you get. I have done very little loading for the Connor case. The stuff I loaded up for you a while back and for one guy up here. He was not interested in accuracy and just wanted “fidy bullets fer shootin round at stuff”. So I just grabbed the book and looked up a load for IMR 3031, and filled his order with a mid charge and some .270 bullets I got either from an estate sale or off e-bay. Never heard from the guy again, didn’t expect to. He wanted some stuff at Remington green box prices, not my “standard caliber of clientele”. Every so often, I get some like that or those that want some ballistic tips loaded up for their thuddy-thuddy. And no, I don’t load them, need a freekin sign saying the obvious with some people. Back to the point at hand. The horizontal stringing can be shooter error or barrel harmonics. If you are looking for a powder, RIGHT NOW, I’d try the 3031, I have found it to be excellent in everything from the .222 up to the 300. And as a side note, it works well in my 7-08, .25-05 and .308, all of which have similar capacity and bullet weight as the .270. However H4831 is supposed to be the premier powder for the 06. I just have not seen it yet, however I’m using the H4831SC, supposedly no difference except it is supposed to meter better as it is short cut (SC). If you are willing to wait a bit, I’ll have some of my powder stash down there and you can load some off of that to see what you like best. AND I have a chronograph.
the 140 grain boat tailed Jacketed hollowpoint bullets by Sierra stock number 1835. I went in to buy some matchkings but Burdett didn't have them and I wanted to play now not after 3to5 days for shippings so I bought 'em.
what maker is 3031 from?
IMR3031
